LOPUD BEACHES

Lopud is one of the many islands along the beautiful Croatian coast, but this one has 2 sandy beaches! It is busy with tourists from the excursion boats that arrive and from the guests of the expensive yachts anchored just off shore, BUT never enough to spoil the place, they just add to the atmosphere.

ABOUT LOPUD BEACHES

By far one of our favorite places. Lopud is one of the many islands along this beautiful coast but this one has 2 sandy beaches and we love it. You have a stunning hours ferry ride to the island, (€3 each way plus car parking, prices as 2018) from the port in Dubrovnik, or you could take an excursion trip.

You arrive on Lopud Island sailing past the large monastery that clings to the headland, to a beautiful old fishing town. Here you meander through the streets or along the promenade and its many cafes and seafront restaurants. It is busy with tourists from the excursion boats that arrive and from the guests of the expensive yachts anchored just off shore, BUT never enough to spoil the place, they just add to the atmosphere.

You can spend the day on the town side of the island and make the most of the sandy beaches or take some exercise and walk 1.6 km through to the other side of the island to Šunj Beach.

If you are overloaded with buckets and spades there are golf buggies, at 2€ that will take the strain and shuttle you there! It is worth the effort as it is a stunning bay with a large sandy beach.

There are two beach bars with welcome shade from the midday sun and cold drinks, one serving fast food and the other more of a full menu, a long lunch being just what you need after the walk.

There are sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent.

If you have taken an excursion make sure you allow enough time to get back to the other side of the island before your boat leaves.

Head down the mountain towards Dubrovnik, to the mini roundabout. Turn right to Mokošica, wind down the hill and then filter left at the T junction, by the garage. Continue along the lower coast road all the way to Dubrovnik. You will then come to a new large roundabout with the ferry port on your right. Turn in right to a large car park and purchase return ticket to Lopud.

The ferry tends to depart at 10am, returning 4pm or 6pm but there will be this season’s timetable found at your accommodation. Excursions usually including lunch can be purchased from Lily or Mili or most of the beach areas along the coast.
