WINERY VUKOJE

A family favourite, for us it’s a bit different and we love watching the sun-set and the colours change over the valley

ABOUT VUKOJE WINERY & RESTAURANT

This place is a gem of a find, it is a modern winery with a new contemporary restaurant, nestled on the top of a hill, with stunning views of the 13th Century town of Trebinje and the surrounding mountains with their churches perched on the top of them.

Wine Culture in Bosnia & Herzegovina is growing, more wine producers and restaurants are paying greater attention to their wine lists and to their customers. Julijana (Julia) and Mladen, sommeliers, at Vukoje, are usually on hand to welcome you personally. They aren’t a large winery but believe in quality and not mass producing for quantity and have about 20 different labels all exclusively made from their 30 hectares of vineyards.

Initially you will be blown away by location of Winery Vukoje – it’s just different and hard to describe. You enter through 2 oak barreled doors and wind your way up the stairs to a new, modern, open plan restaurant with a floor to ceiling water feature. Spectacular views span over the town, the river to the vineyard itself, with mountains behind you as your back drop.

On the floor above is an outdoor dining area for the summer months, with comfortable outdoor furniture and again the “views” to be enjoyed whist dining. Above this is a roof terrace bar.

The food is good, modern and organic where possible and service prompt. They offer you a taster wine with each course and with their genuine love of wine they will give you a little information on each one.
You do not need to be a wine lover, but helpful if you are! To me I find the white Zilavka Grape, delicate, crisp and fresh with a light aroma and so very drinkable. And on a summers evening how do you say “NO” to a pale pink Rose – it just says “Ok I am on holiday, why not”. And the red wine with Steak that has been marinated for a week!!

If you do want to visit they will offer you a short tour 15-20mins of the cellars before dining if previously requested.

In the summer months it is recommended to book- please call the number below or ask our property manager to make a booking for you. A taxi could also be arranged. ENJOY!

Please visit www.vinskacesta.ba for further information or phone +387 (0)65 517 099 or ask our property manager who will be happy to book for you.

NB: The winery is spread over several floors with stair cases and there is no lift available.

Travel from Ivanica towards Trebinje.

At the first roundabout, on the outskirts of Trebinje, take the first exit. Go over the bridge and at the second roundabout take the second exit. Go straight ahead to a small roundabout, go over this one to the T junction. Turn left , then very shortly afterwards turn right into Nićifora Dučića street, following the brown tourist signs for ‘Vinarija Vukoje’.

At this stage you may feel you are completely lost, going through a housing area but you’re not. Follow the road up to hill taking the second turning right into Mirna street. Keep left as the road forks (it is a small dip in the road and both go to the same place) and before the next sharp bend you will see in front of you a large glass three story building- The winery.

Park and the entrance, through the oak barrelled doors is at the far end of the car park.
It is about a three minute journey from the town centre.
Not suitable for guests that can’t manage a lot of stairs as there is no lift.
