ABOUT PERAST

Perast is just one of the most beautiful places on the Kotor Fjord’s in Montengro. You could easily drive by on your way to Kotor, as you aren’t allowed to drive through the town in the summer months, unless you are locals or are on the bus! But don’t as it is well worth a stop!

Nestled in between the mountains and the Adriatic, on a very narrow strip of land, Perast is an array of churches, restaurants, a few hotels and steeped in history. With ferry boats, excursions and the local bus trying to pass, it offers good entertainment and views whilst having drinks or lunch! You could even take a ferry boat to Kotor from here, it would be a fantastic way to take photos and arrive in Kotor.

Offshore lie 2 distinctive islands. St George is a Benedictine Monastery and off limits to visitors. Adjacent is the Lady of The Rock, built on a man made island. Legend has it that after a storm fisherman found an icon of Mary and Jesus and vowed they would build a church on the spot. A church was built here and dedicated to this icon, protector of sailors and fishermen.

I recommend walking along the shoreline and hiring a small boat, they will take you for a round trip approx. 5€ per person.

Please follow directions for Kotor.
